Higham on the Hill, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
FRONT ELEVATION OF EXISTING CHIMNEY CAP
Having stood for well over 100 years on the top of a chinmey stack, the capping stone was well past repair.
The stone was removed from the roof and brought down to ground for safe surveying.
SECTION AND PROFILE OF CAPPING STONE
The stone was weathered to such an extent that the profile had eroded.
As a result of freeze/thaw the top part of the unit had also become detatched from the base.
SURVEY OF THE EXISTING STONE
A survey is taken of the existing stone unit dimensions are taken and a full size section profile prepared. Lines are extended to re-establish mouldings which have been eroded away.
After the Client has approved the details as being acceptable the mason will cut the new stone.
The replacement unit is secured into place and the capping flaunched.
Only part of the cap had deteriorated with the remainder being perfectly serviceable.
FINISHED CHIMNEY CAP
Supplied in St.Bees natural sandstone, the worked chimney cap is now ready for the next 100 years of the English weather.
